Epitalon (epithalon, AEDG) is a synthetic tetrapeptide — the four amino acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, identified by CAS number 307297-39-8 — modelled on epithalamin, a peptide preparation isolated from the pineal gland. It has been characterised in preclinical in-vitro and in-vivo models for its interactions with telomerase expression, pineal signalling, and antioxidant defence pathways. Research has investigated Epitalon's effect on telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) activity in cultured human cells, on melatonin secretion and circadian rhythmicity, and on markers of oxidative stress and cellular senescence. Its very short sequence gives it high aqueous solubility and rapid clearance in the models studied, which is why research protocols typically examine repeated short-course exposure. Epitalon is supplied as a lyophilised white powder with a molecular weight of 390.35 Da and molecular formula C14H22N4O9. Supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research.
